By Hayley Richardson For Mailonline. From the age of 16, Emma experienced pain during intercourse but didn't realise it was abnormal until she hit her twenties. The condition was so severe she became deeply afraid of relationships and felt isolated from friends, to the point where she sought therapy to help her through dark times. Emma Allitt, 24, a recruitment consultant from London, suffers from vaginismus, where the vagina involuntarily tightens whenever penetration is attempted, causing a great deal of discomfort. When she met her current partner, Emma gradually learned to trust him and gradually felt able to enter into a physical relationship. Having thoroughly researched CBD and its relaxation and pain relief properties, the couple found lubricant infused with the botanical while in America. They tried it out and Emma claims it made a huge difference, and they now use it every time they have intercourse. Emma admitted she thought painful sex was normal and something every teenage girl experienced. Emma said the pain she felt ranged from very uncomfortable to acute, making any experimentation in the bedroom almost impossible. Emma went to her GP several times and was initially diagnosed with dyspareunia, a catch-all term for difficult or painful sexual intercourse.

Photo collage by Yunuen Bonaparte. I cup her many faces in my hands, like water droplets threatening to spill through laced fingers. In each picture, I am the result of another person, their needs, opinions, objectives, desires. I came across this stack of photos tucked inside a wooden jewelry box while searching for earrings to wear for my evening performance. The contrast between the girl visible and the tales beneath fell me to my knees, to curl against this wall hoping to feel warm again. Me at Photo courtesy of Kris Weir.
Written far more conventionally but similarly immersive, it has been set up to have broad commercial appeal. Our heroine, Majella, works in the local chip shop, A Salt and Battered! He knew who was fucking who, who had fucked who and who wanted to fuck who. He knew who was drinking, smoking, swallowing or injecting what, and he often knew where and when. He always had an opinion on the why. Pain and trauma lie beneath the jokes. Majella lives at home with her lazy and often nasty alcoholic mother, her father having disappeared when she was a child. And what a voice: I felt as though I knew Majella intimately by the end. We are told in the blurb that she is autistic, but the only hints in the text are a certain matter of factness and her occasional habit of rocking and flicking her fingers to calm herself down.
It had all these pictures of celebrities on their winter holidays in St Barts in bikinis and their different body parts were picked out with red circles highlighting their muffin tops and their cellulite and I looked over at the next table and there was a girl eating a muffin. It was just incredibly vivid so I got out my notebook and started writing. Many women make a correlation between moral worth and weight and I really wanted to explore that. This is a healthy and positive way to be a girl.
